Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a round cake pan with parchment paper.

In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate and butter together over a pot of simmering water. Stir until smooth and well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and eggs until light and fluffy.

Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, stirring well after each addition.

Sift in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

While the cake is cooling, prepare the ganache. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer.

Remove from heat and pour the hot cream over the chopped dark chocolate. Let it sit for a minute, then stir until smooth and glossy.

Let the ganache cool for about 2 hours, or until it thickens to a spreadable consistency.

Once the ganache has thickened, spread it evenly over the cooled cake.
