Chocolate chip cookies were invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield in 1938. She added chopped chocolate to her cookie dough, expecting the chocolate to melt and create chocolate cookies. However, the chocolate stayed in chunks, creating the first chocolate chip cookies.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Once the cake is cooled, spread a layer of chocolate ganache on top. Decorate with cookie dough balls.
  8. Allow the ganache to set and serve the cake.
