The chocolate chip cookie cake was invented by Ruth Wakefield, who owned the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts. She accidentally created the cookie cake when she ran out of regular baking chocolate and decided to use broken pieces of Nestle’s semi-sweet chocolate instead.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts, if desired.
  5. Press the cookie dough evenly into the prepared cake pan.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 30 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
