The chocolate chip cookie cake was invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield in the 1930s when she ran out of baker’s chocolate and decided to use semi-sweet chocolate chips instead.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well.

Fold in the chocolate chips.

Spread the dough evenly into a greased 9-inch round cake pan.
