Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Melt the chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl over simmering water.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and eggs until light and fluffy.

Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the sugar and eggs, mixing well.

Sift in the flour and baking powder, and fold gently until combined.

Stir in the milk and vanilla extract.

Pour the batter into a greased and lined cake tin.

Bake for 40 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once the cake has cooled, spread the prickly pear jam on top.
