In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate and butter together over a pan of simmering water. Stir until smooth and remove from heat.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and eggs until pale and fluffy. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture, whisking constantly.

Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Fold gently until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
