Sheet cakes are called so because they are baked in a large, flat sheet pan, allowing for easy slicing and serving.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix well until smooth.

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes.

In the meantime, prepare the frosting by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

After 10 minutes, remove the cake from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack.

Once the cake is cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top.
