Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract together.

Gradually add the egg mixture to the flour mixture, stirring until just combined.

Gently fold in the cherries and sliced almonds.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
