  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt for the cake layers.
  3. Add the softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk. Mix until well combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract for the cheesecake layer until smooth.
  6. Spread the cheesecake mixture over one of the cake layers.
  7. Bake both cake layers in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake layers to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once the cake layers have cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the layer.
