Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, butter, egg, vanilla extract, baking powder, and salt. Mix until well combined.

Spread half of the batter onto the bottom of the prepared cake pan.

In a separate bowl, mix together the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the batter in the cake pan.

Spoon the cherry pie filling over the cream cheese layer.

Drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the cherry pie filling.

Sprinkle sliced almonds on top.

Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
