Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the grated cheddar cheese and chopped fresh chives.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and stir until just combined.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently a few times until it comes together.

Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick round and cut out scones using a round biscuit cutter.
