Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use your hands or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the grated cheddar cheese.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
