Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and cut it in using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg.

Add the milk mixture to the flour mixture and stir until just combined.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it gently a few times until it comes together.

Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch (1 cm) thick.

Starting from one long side, tightly roll up the dough into a log.
