Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
-
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
-
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
-
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
In a small saucepan, heat the caramel sauce over low heat until warmed through. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped nuts.
-
In a separate bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, heavy cream, and caramel extract until smooth and creamy.
-
Place one cake layer on a serving platter and spread half of the caramel nut mixture over the top. Place the second cake layer on top and spread the remaining caramel nut mixture over it.
-
Frost the sides and top of the cake with the cream cheese frosting. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

Enjoy!
