Salt cod cakes, also known as ‘Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá’, are a popular traditional Portuguese dish. They are named after José Luís Gomes de Sá, a famous Portuguese merchant who loved this recipe.

  2. Boil the soaked cod fillets until they are tender. Remove the skin and bones, then flake the fish.
  3. Boil the potatoes until they are soft. Mash them thoroughly.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flaked cod, chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, breadcrumbs, eggs, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  5. Shape the mixture into small patties.
  6. Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the cod cakes until they are golden brown on both sides.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or as part of a meal.
