  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk.
  5. Divide the batter in half. Add red food coloring to one half and peppermint extract to the other half.
  6. Pour the red batter into one side of the greased cake pan and the peppermint batter into the other side.
  7. Use a knife to gently swirl the two batters together to create a marbled effect.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar and garnish with crushed candy canes.
