  2. Press the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan, heat the butterscotch sauce over low heat until warmed. Pour the warmed sauce into the pie crust.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy. Gradually add the granulated sugar, cornstarch, cream of tartar, vanilla extract, and salt. Continue beating until stiff peaks form.
  5. Spread the meringue over the butterscotch filling, making sure to seal the edges. Use a spatula to create decorative peaks.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the meringue is golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before serving.
