Kolaches originated in the Czech Republic and were brought to the United States by Czech immigrants. They have become a popular breakfast pastry in many parts of the country.

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Heat the milk and butter in a saucepan until the butter melts. Let it cool slightly.
  3. Add the milk mixture and eggs to the flour mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
  7. Flatten each piece into a circle and place a sausage link, cheese, and jalapeno slice in the center.
  8. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal.
  9. Place the kolaches on a greased baking sheet and let them rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the kolaches for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
  11. Serve warm and enjoy!
