Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a saucepan, bring the Dr Pepper to a boil. Add the brats sausages and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove the sausages and set aside.

In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar. Add the eggs and mix well.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Grease a cake pan and pour in the batter. Place the brats sausages on top of the batter.

Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
