Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch springform pan.
-
In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and granulated sugar until creamy. Add sour cream, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the cream cheese mixture and mix until well combined.
-
Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the surface.
-
Peel, core, and slice the apples. Toss the sliced apples with lemon juice.
-
In a skillet, melt the unsalted butter. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, and brandy. Stir until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is bubbly.
-
Add the sliced apples to the skillet and cook until tender. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
-
Arrange the cooked apples on top of the batter in the pan. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts.
-
Pour the remaining batter over the apples and walnuts. Smooth the surface.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until the cake is set and golden brown.
-
Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then remove the sides of the springform pan and let the cake cool completely on a wire rack.
-
Once cooled, dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar.
-
Slice and serve.
