Bobotie is a traditional South African dish with influences from Indonesian and Cape Malay cuisine.

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the onions and garlic until soft.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until browned.
  4. Add the curry powder, turmeric powder, cinnamon, and ginger powder. Stir well.
  5. Remove from heat and add the apricot jam, soaked bread (squeezed), and milk. Mix until well combined.
  6. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and season with salt and black pepper.
  7. Grease a baking dish and transfer the beef mixture into it. Smooth the top.
  8. Place bay leaves on top and pour the beaten eggs over the mixture.
  9. Sprinkle sliced almonds on top.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
  12. Serve with yellow rice and chutney, if desired.
