  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  4. Gently fold in the blueberries.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped nuts (if using).
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Sprinkle half of the brown sugar mixture over the batter. Repeat with the remaining batter and brown sugar mixture.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Serve and enjoy!
