Mincemeat pie filling traditionally contained meat, but modern versions often use a mixture of fruits, spices, and alcohol.

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mincemeat, apples, raisins, currants, brown sugar, lemon juice, orange zest, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and melted butter.
  3. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  4. Roll out one of the pie crusts and line a 9-inch pie dish with it.
  5. Pour the mincemeat mixture into the pie crust.
  6. Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling.
  7. Seal the edges of the pie crusts together and trim any excess.
  8. Cut a few slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  9. Brush the beaten egg over the top crust.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before serving.
