The first Creamsicle ice cream bar was invented in 1905 by Frank Epperson, when he accidentally left a mixture of powdered soda, water, and a stirring stick outside on a cold winter night. When he woke up the next morning, he discovered the frozen treat, which he named the ‘Epsicle’. The name was later changed to ‘Popsicle’ and the Creamsicle flavor was introduced in the 1930s.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and orange zest.

Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the orange juice and milk. Mix until just combined. If desired, add a few drops of orange food coloring to enhance the orange color.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely.
