Boil the potatoes until tender. Drain and mash.

Heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a pan and sauté the diced onion and minced garlic until golden brown.

In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, sautéed onion and garlic, ground beef, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

Form the mixture into patties or cakes.

Heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a frying pan and cook the beef and potato cakes on medium heat until golden brown on both sides.

Transfer the cakes to a baking dish and place a small piece of butter on top of each cake.

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 20-25 minutes.

Remove from the oven and let the cakes rest for 10 minutes before serving.
