  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in the chopped basil leaves.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. In a small saucepan, combine the strawberries and balsamic vinegar. Cook over medium heat until the strawberries are soft and the mixture thickens slightly.
  9. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  10. Once the cake and strawberry mixture are completely cool, spread the strawberries over the top of the cake.
  11. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
