  2. In a large bowl, mix together the semolina, sugar, coconut flakes, and baking powder.
  3. Add the yogurt, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the bowl and mix well.
  4. Grease a baking dish with butter and pour the mixture into it.
  5. Smooth the top with a spatula and sprinkle the sliced almonds on top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. While the basboosa is baking, prepare the syrup by heating the syrup ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat until it thickens slightly.
