  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. Once the cakes have cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream over the top, then arrange sliced bananas on top. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts. Place the second cake layer on top and repeat the process.
  7. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
