Muffins originated in Europe and were traditionally made with yeast. The modern quick bread muffins we know today became popular in the United States in the 19th century.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a muffin tin or line with paper liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the pumpkin puree, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold in the chopped pecans, raisins, and dried cranberries.
  6. Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin tin, filling each cup about 2/3 full.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
  8. Allow the muffins to cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Serve and enjoy!
