Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

Mix in the applesauce, peanut butter, and sour cream until well combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Fold in the chocolate chips, dried fruit, and chopped nuts (if using).

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
