Ingredients
  • 2 pound Apples
  • 3 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Molasses
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and molasses.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Mix well after each addition.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Once the cakes are cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a thin layer of powdered sugar on top. Repeat with the remaining layers.
  8. Dust the top layer with powdered sugar and drizzle with vanilla extract.
  9. Let the cake rest for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
  10. Slice and serve.
