  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. In another bowl, beat together the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
  7. Spread half of the batter into the prepared cake pan.
  8. Layer half of the apple slices over the batter, then sprinkle with half of the cinnamon and half of the chopped walnuts.
  9. Spoon dollops of the cream cheese mixture over the apples.
  10. Repeat the layers with the remaining batter, apple slices, cinnamon, and walnuts.
  11. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  12. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
