  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. In a small bowl, toss the chopped apples with the ground cinnamon.
  6. Spread half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Top with half of the chopped apples and half of the brown sugar. Repeat the layers with the remaining batter, apples, and brown sugar.
  7. Sprinkle the chopped walnuts on top of the cake.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Serve and enjoy!
