Anzac Biscuits were originally made by the wives of Australian and New Zealand soldiers during World War I. They were sent to the soldiers as they could be stored for a long time without spoiling.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). In a large bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, coconut, and brown sugar. In a small saucepan, melt the butter and golden syrup over low heat. In a small bowl, dissolve baking soda in boiling water, then add it to the butter mixture. Pour the butter mixture into the dry ingredients and mix well. Roll tablespoonfuls of the mixture into balls and place them on a lined baking tray. Flatten the balls with a fork. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Allow the biscuits to cool on the tray for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
