Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Drizzle half of the melted chocolate over the batter. Use a knife to gently swirl the chocolate into the batter, creating a marbled effect.
  7. Repeat with the remaining batter and melted chocolate.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Slice and serve.
