Spicy Italian Plum Cake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Arrange the plum slices on top of the batter.

Bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
